First things first let me introduce myself. Hi, I’m Michelle a 25 year old creative from the Netherlands!
Maybe this is going to sound very cliche but i’ve known my whole life that I wanted to do something creative. As a kid I rushed through all my tests at school so I could draw when I was finished. All my notebooks at school where filled with little sketches and doodles. Everything i’ve learned in the drawing field, I’ve learned through either tutorials or just years and years of practice. I didn’t just saw it as a way to learn new things but also as a way to invest in my own life.
I graduated in Graphic Design in 2019. I wanted to go to Art school but I wasn’t sure if I would fit me since I already had a very outspoken style in drawing and designing. I decided to take a gap year. Since then i’ve been busy to improve myself within the drawing, designing and Art fields. When I saw how much progress I had made, I made the decision to go my own way and figure it out myself.
I started posting on tiktok in the beginning of 2020. I made tutorials and showed the audience what I did. People loved it! A couple months later I sold loads of self made posters trough instagram DM!
This went on for some time and in the meantime I made some improvements within my knowledge of the art field. I bought my first set of oil paints. Through some tutorials I learned the basics of painting a realistic portrait. There is always room for improvement but I managed to get a great result out of my first try.
Throughout the rest of that year i’ve had some small commisions. Some tattoo designs, logo’s and personalized artworks. In 2022 I had decided to start my own webshop. A platform where I sold all my creative stuff. From posters to painted skateboard decks and stickers to big artworks.
After these years I really struggeld with myself and what I wanted to do next. It felt like I had to chose between proffesions. Become an artist? Become a freelance designer? Or just working for a company. To me it felt really black and white at that time. Untill I realised it is my life and I can do everything that my heart tells me to do. The most important thing to me is doing something that I truly enjoy.
This is why transparency is really important to me. Talking about how you feel about certain things and working together to create something mind blowing!
